In 2006, Matt was working for a contractor at Red River Army Depot and was facing another layoff. It was at that time that Matt realized he wanted to learn a trade that could last him a lifetime. He started the fall semester and completed the HVAC trade school through Texarkana College.
Matt’s first job out of college was for a local business that did refrigeration, food equipment repair, and heating and air. He worked for that company for 3 years until another job opportunity became available that allowed him to focus on heating and air only. It was during that time that Matt gained more knowledge and insight into in-depth troubleshooting on HVAC equipment and was trained to run service calls and install equipment. After working for 2 years, he decided he wanted to pursue getting his Texas and Arkansas HVAC licenses.
After speaking to a neighbor who was a local fireman, he gave Matt the idea to go to fire school and do heating and air conditioning on his days off from the station. Matt went to Sulpher Springs and looked into their fire/EMT program, and he wanted to sign up for their next session in the summer of 2012. He completed both courses at the academy and was ready to start his new career. After receiving his fireman certification, Matt was having a difficult time landing a job. It was at this time that he decided he would go into business for himself.
He started Lone Star Heating and Air in the spring of 2013. After 3 months of working for himself, he received a call from the city of Atlanta, TX, to come work for their fire department. Matt began his fireman career in the summer of 2013 and worked full time doing both firefighting and HVAC. He kept up with both careers for two years and was at a point where he needed to pick one or the other. He decided he wanted to focus on growing his business and be home with his family every night. Although he enjoyed being a fireman, he is glad that he made the decision to let it go and focus on his company. Matt has always run his business with family first. His kids love taking pictures with their pets holding up Lone Star Air signs, and his wife Lacey does all the bookkeeping. Matt loves the HVAC industry and has focused on residential and light commercial. He has a crew now, and they can get the job done as needed. Matt became a Trane Dealer after going into business for himself and loves promoting their products. He feels it is the best equipment on the market. When thinking about a family-owned and operated business, look no further than Lone Star Heating and Air for all your heating and cooling needs.
